Treatment of Lymphedema

Comprehensive Approaches to the Treatment of Lymphedema

Swollen limbs can greatly affect your daily life. Lymphatic therapists utilize manual lymphatic drainage, exercise, and wrapping techniques to decrease swelling and improve quality of life.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a light, skin-stretching massage that helps promote the movement of lymphatic fluid out of the swollen limb. MLD is specifically focused on the lymph vessels to help improve the flow of lymphatic fluid and ultimately decrease the amount of fluid in the affected limb.

Pre-manufactured garments, custom garments and short stretch compression bandages are used in the treatment of lymphedema. Your therapist will provide information on each style and which would be your best fit.
